Upgrading computer laptop could be an effective solution that can solve environment problem from e-waste for consumers because this solution can enhance products life cycle, and the solution is not only save the environment from e-waste, but making the computer laptop faster is another benefit by upgrading. Software Upgrade
Software upgrade is the simple solution that could make laptops faster, and this solution does not have any cost for solving the problem that the laptops become slower and slower. The laptops are slower because various rationales such as use the outdated version of operating system (OS), does not defragment the disk, have numerous unusable files, and have viruses.
Hardware upgrade is the effective solution for developing laptop abilities because changing hardware means changing the original specifications of laptops. This can make laptops work rapidly, and the process can fix hardware problem that effect laptops directly. Random Access Memory (RAM) upgrading can improve laptop ability for running multiple software at the same time because every program has to store the data on RAM when the programs are used. With the massive of data that could be stored on RAM, increasing the capacity of RAM can improve a laptop works smoothly. For upgrading capacity of RAM, acknowledging type of RAM such as DDR, DDR2, or DDR3 is important because using wrong type of RAM on laptops cannot fit in the motherboard of the laptops (The Knowledge Management (KM) team, 2013). Another knowledge that should be concern is the types of Operating System (OS) which are 32-bit version and 64-bit version because 32-bit version can only access up to 4 gigabytes of RAM, but 64-bit version can access up to 16 exabytes or 17,179,869,184 gigabytes of RAM.
Changing type of permanent storage can speed up laptops because all data, files, and programs are collected on the storage permanently, and the accessible time depend on the speed of the storage. Persistent Storage can be separated into different types such as hard disk drive (HDD) and Solid-State Drive (SSD).
