COMPUTER COMPONENTS

Monitor, keyboard, and mice are the basic computer components or external hardware, but computer components have more than the basic components that can notice obviously. The main computer components, which establish a computer for calculating, controlling, and connecting software and electronic devices, are inside a computer call internal hardware. The major components for computing are motherboard, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Random Access Memory (RAM), and permanent storage.

Motherboard

Motherboard is an electronic circuit board in a computer, and the motherboard connects to other computer devices such as CPU, RAM, and storage (Mullins, 2016) In other words, motherboard is the main computer components that every major device like CPU, RAM, and storage have to plug in physically.

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the brain of a computer that executes software on the computer and control all the devices, so most calculations in a computer occur in CPU.

Random Access Memory (RAM)

Random Access Memory (RAM) is the temporary memory for computers that store files for processing a program. RAM is the fastest memory that separate from processor or Central Processing Unit (CPU) because RAM is store in the form of electricity. Because RAM cannot store any files or programs when it has no power supply, RAM does not work after turning off the computer. Therefore, RAM is not the memory to keep every single file permanently, but RAM is the significant storage for executing programs.

Permanent Storage

Permanent storage can store files permanently as the name suggests, and it use for storing enormous amounts of data. For example, programs, documents, and Operating System (OS) like Microsoft Windows are located in a permanent storage. Permanent storage is slower than Random Access Memory (RAM), and the accessible time of the permanent memory depends on the memory types such as hard disk drive (HDD), and Solid-State Drive (SSD).
