Recycling electronic components is beneficial for managing e-waste, and recycling can reduce the amount of e-waste that is currently increasing. Recycling policies are provided in many technology companies, and some countries create recycling areas for managing electronic devices. For example, China is the largest importer and recycler that import e-waste from the United States, Europe, and other countries, and the cities, where the major e-waste recycling areas are located, are Guiyu (GY), Qingyuan (QY), and Taizhou (TZ) (Breivik, Armitage, Wania, & Jones, 2014). Another recycling process that we can see in today life is the policies in companies like Apple, Microsoft, Intel, and Samsung.

RECYCLE

APPLE

Apple is the company that sell multiple products such as iPhone, iPad, and MacBook, so these products are electronic devices that will be retried to e-waste in the future. Apple offer recycling an Apple product online (Apple Inc, 2017). In other word, people who want to buy a new Apple product can exchange their old Apple product with an Apple gift card, and Apple will recycle the old products.

MICROSOFT

Microsoft is another company that have various electronic products including Microsoft Surface, Microsoft Lumia, and Xbox. Microsoft (2017) states that “We are committed to the recovery and recycling of the useful materials in our products, and keeping them out of landfills at the end of their life cycle,” and Microsoft offer customers to trade in old products at local Microsoft store for upgrading to the last technology.

INTEL

Intel is the major company that establish significant hardware for computing like processors, memories, and storage. With the important hardware that every computer must have, these products can impact on the environment, so Intel have considered and minimized this effect. Intel have recycled over 75% of the total waste that generated from their operations, and increasing the number of recycling and decreasing the amount of chemical waste are the solution for managing e-waste (Intel Corporation, 2017).

SAMSUNG

Samsung is the enormous electronic company that delivers worldwide massive internal and external products, for example, memory, Solid State Drive(SSD), laptop, monitor, and mobile phone. Samsung (2017) provides the policy call “Product Life Cycle Extension,” which extends the life cycle of the products. For instance, extending the period for product warranty and service can expand the products life cycle, and Samsung creates battery life extension mode in mobile device like laptop, and mobile phone for increasing products life cycle.
